What is
Erotic Funk?
‘Erotic Funk’ is a descriptive label for the type, method and sometimes style of polework movement that I offer. Taken from the title of an L.H. Stallings analysis of Black sexual cultures called “Funk The Erotic” it has been applied to polework. Via Stallings, the term references a multitude of creativity produced from multisensory human nature and history where “what is thrilling, erotic, obscene, profane or sexual intersects with what is sacred, spiritual, intellectual, and nurturing” in improvisational ways like jazz and extrasensory feeling like soul.
